Early in the 21st century, following 90 years of continuous occupation, Perpetual Trustees had finally outgrown its long-time home and in 2006 the Company sold 39 Hunter Street.
The property was purchased by a private investor who recognised 39 Hunter Street as a rare, timeless and distinctive landmark. And perhaps more importantly, had the vision and commitment to create the best outcome for the building and its occupants for the next phase of the building’s journey.
The new owner appreciated the enormous potential for the building and its services to be fully upgraded and enhanced so that it would again provide the highest quality, contemporary office accommodation, the envy of all, right in the city’s thriving heart, and at the same time set the benchmark for a healthy and productive office working environment.
In conjunction with architects, engineers and consultants, the owner developed a design brief, which embraced the building’s iconic features, its heritage and the future.
